Anti-Plagiarism Policy and Procedures

Policy statement

 

·         Faculty of Physical Therapy has the responsibility to ensure the academic honesty and not allow for the plagiarism, as an ethics of education.

 

·         Faculty of Physical Therapy directs the students to understand their responsibilities toward academic honesty and plagiarism.

 

·         It is dishonest for students to submit assignment, case study, or research paper that represents the work of others.

Procedures

The work of the students is submitted to the Faculty of Engineering for detecting the plagiarism. 

 

Then, the report of plagiarism for the work of the students is submitted to the teaching staff responsible for supervision of the students work to undertake the following steps of the procedures of plagiarism.  

 

The student is given an opportunity to defend in cases whether the plagiarism is non-significant or significant. The level of intention will determine the penalty of the student. It may become clearer whether the incident stemmed from deliberate dishonesty or through ignorance or carelessness in source use.

 

In case of the non-significant plagiarism, the head of course and the teacher who assess the work of the student will discuss the issue with the student and listen to his/her defense and if appropriate a verbal warning and a note on the work are provided.(Universities Organization Law, Article 126)

 

In case of a significant plagiarism, the head of course and the teacher who assess the work of the student will discuss the issue with the student and listen to his/her defense. The penalty will depend on the significance of plagiarism.

 

1-    Warning and one of the following penalty

·        A reduced grade: the student is given a reduced mark for the assessment of the work.

·        The student is asked to submit an additional work for assessment.

·        A failed grade: the work may be assessed as fail (zero mark).

2-    Depriving the students from certain student activities.

3-    Depriving the students from attending the lessons of the course for a period not exceeding one month.

(Universities Organization Law, Article 126).

 

 

N.B. If a student is unhappy with the penalty, he/she submits an appeal to the department council, which is discussed and a decision taken about his/her appeal.
